This is the most commonly used gypsum board for partitions and false ceilings. Widely available in range of thickness as well as in sizes.
This is a Moisture Resistant (MR) gypsum board and may help in absorbing up to 5% of moisture in the environment or ambience in 24 hours with direct exposure. However, once exposed to moisture, the capacity of absorption would decrease with the passing of time .
This is a Fire Resistance (FR) gypsum board which can provide fire rating up to 4 hours. Also, this FR grade gypsum board is quite useful in high traffic and fire-trone areas like airport, hospitals, shopping malls, educational institutions, etc.
There are normally two methods of installing a false ceiling.
One is by using gypsum powder along with wire mesh. This is cumbersome process and may result in poor finishing in the end. This type of false ceiling is heavy weight and may lead to cracks. Also, this one is not conducive to frequent maintenance and alterations.
In order to have a false ceiling which is light In weight, easy to maintain and open to alterations. the other option is - using gypsum board. The lead lime to install this type of system is quite minimum using grid-hanger system, as shown in the above picture.
Depending upon the dimensions of the site-area, the normal distance between two hangers is around 1.0 to 1.5 mtrs and to this, a grid of GI-mains and Gl-channels is fixed by way of self- threading steel screws. L -shaped strip is fixed at the perimeter of the site area where the false ceiling is to be done. The gypsum board is fixed at the bottom end of the grid using the steel screws. Cutouts are made wherever required in the gypsum board. All joints are sealed by jointing compound and a paper masking tape is used to cover the joints in order to give the ceiling or partition a smooth look. Now, depending upon the utility, a normal top coat of water based paint can beapplied on the surface.The celling or the partition is ready. Broadly, at a typical and standard site, 40-60 square meter of area can be done in a day.
